Google Nexus One, is this THE super Smartphone??

Google Nexus OneThe Google Nexus One is the most anticipated Android phone to date.

Firstly, because Google are going to be selling the phone network free, and secondly because it should be the best Android phone so far.

The Google Nexus one feels like a solid phone, unlike the iPhone.  The back isn't slippery, instead, it's nice and soft, warm and not prone at all to fingerprints.  The design is very modern and minimalist and most people will be impressed with its looks.

Aside from a powerful Snapdragon chipset and AMOLED display, the Nexus One also sports a microSD slot (populated with a 4GB card). On the back, there's the camera and its LED flash.  At the bottom, there is the now almost standard mini USB port that syncs/charges.

Display

The image quality of the 800x480 OLED display is way beyond the Milestone or the iPhone in terms of resolution, colour saturation adn contrast. The blacks really are black and not just dark gray.

Audio

Whilst the phone only has a front speaker it's sound isn't too bad, though once you plug in some decent headphones or external speakers the sound quality is really quite good.  The Nexus One has a 2nd microphone at the rear that is meant to analyse the background noise and filter it out (much like noise cancelling headphones).

Internet

As you'd expect from a phone from Google, web browsing is key to this phone.  It is very fast, faster than the Droid and the 3GS, and the OLED screen makes a big difference. For one, it has double the pixel density of the iPhone, mamking the small fonts sharper. Secondly the colors are noticeably more vibrant.  Both Safari and the Android browsers do a good job at adapting the content to whatever zoom state you're in.

Photo's

The Nexus One captures acceptable photos, and shoots average (for mobniles) video.  The Nokia N900, for example, has a better camera builtin.  That said, in good lighting conditions, the camera does take a decent picture, even if that colors are very accurate

Multitasking

One huge selling point the Nexus One holds over the iPhone is it's ability to multitask. Because the Nexus One is more powerful than any other Android phone, it is even more suited to multitasking.

Music

The Android player can handle music files well, with a keywoard search option that can find things quickly. You can browse by artist, album or songname.

YouTube & Video Playback

Again anything from Google should be able to handle YouTube well, and the Nexus One doesn't let us done here.  So long as you have a good network connection, viewing YouTube videos is painless.  The phone plays back MP4 videos without any fuss and it is here that the OLED screen really out shices the competition.  Watching a movie on the Nexus One is quite pleasurable.

Google Voice Keyboard

in Android 2.1, every text field can be filled using Googles voice-to-text function. You can dictate instead of type.  Speak and your phrase will be translated to text. The only downside to this function is that your voice is sent to a remote server to be processed so you are at the mercy of the mobile network.

In Conclusion

The Nexus One comes with a very fast processor that hits the magical 1Ghz clock speed and with an AMOLED high-resolution display that puts the iPhone screen to shame. It is also equipped with the latest Android operating system from Google that packs things like voice-to-text and the best GMail client out there.

The Nexus One is clearly superior to the iPhone 3GS on a few technical points, namely like the processor and the display. However, if you already own am iPhone 3G or a 3GS, there's no need to wonder if you should jump ship. At the very least, wait until June for the next iPhone refresh.

Unfortunately for Android fans, I can't say that the Nexus One buries the iPhone 3GS: the 3GS still has an edge in terms of apps, reactivity and overall experience - while the Nexus One has a technological edge and is an unlocked phone that works on any mobile network.

The bottom-line is that the Nexus One is a very powerful handset,
